How to produce a winning proposal in Framework 7!

The European Union’s 7th Framework Programme (FP7) for Research is one of the major areas of EU spending.
It offers a multitude of opportunities, but also poses many challenges.

This workshop provides newcomers to the programme a chance to learn the practical skills in putting a winning proposal together. The form of the workshop means that although what is presented focuses on FP7 Cooperation projects, it will also be transferable to other types of programmes supporting inter-disciplinary research. It is therefore particularly valuable for those starting out their research career.

The workshop lectures will be given in English.

Train the trainer

How to support researchers in grant acquisition and project management

Research management support has become an important function in its own right, but there is little formal training that can prepare people for this important service function.

The purpose of this workshop is to share experience. It will examine the role of the research support manager, how to perform this role effectively, juggle the many demands and look at the possibilities for personal development and advancement.

The workshop is designed for those whose job it is to advise researchers on how to get grants.

HIC 2012 - Conference on Hydroinformatics

Understanding Changing Climate and Environment and Finding Solutions

Hydroinformatics is a strongly inter-disciplinary field, which links water and environmental problems with various computational modelling methods and fast developing information and communication technologies. The latest developments in Hydroinformatics link science and engineering practice together with stakeholders’ views as well as social considerations. A special focus of this conference will be the assessment of the impact of climate and environmental changes on our aquatic environment as well as the development of suitable adaptation and mitigation measures.

Topics
- Advances in Physically-based Modelling Methods
- Data-driven Modelling, Soft Computing and Model Optimization
- Remote Sensing, Digital and Sensor Technology
- Early Warning Systems and Disaster Mitigation
- Real-Time Control and Decision Support Systems
- Climate Change Impacts
- Knowledge and Data Management and Models Interoperability
- Education, Public Awareness and Socio-economic Aspects

ReMaT Workshop for Early-Stage-Researchers

Research Management Training in Hamburg

The ReMaT Workshop Research management training for early-stage researchers - will take place in Hamburg on 24th and 25th September 2012. The workshop is designed for early-stage researchers in engineering and natural sciences, particularly PhD candidates from the 2nd year onwards. The idea of European networking is very much embedded in the concept, and we encourage participation from many different countries at the workshop.

ReMaT is an interactive, intensive workshop providing an introduction to research management. It involves three international trainers and is held in English. The modules of the workshop cover exploitation of knowledge and entrepreneurship, acquisition of grants, intellectual property rights and the management of interdisciplinary projects. They are delivered in such a way that it challenges participants to consider different perspectives on how they might use their PhD education in a variety of career paths, and convince others to hire them.

Get funded! English for Grant Writing

Winning research funding is a competitive business. With much funding now targeted at international cooperation, the ability to write effectively and convincingly in English is a requirement of any researcher. This workshop is designed to help those who do not have English as their native language improve their ability to write research proposals especially for European funding programmes.

Content and Aim of the Workshop

Participants will learn how to identify good models and develop effective writing strategies to target an interdisciplinary readership and put their message across in English. Participants will be introduced to the 'grammar-free' portfolio approach to developing their writing skills, followed by a 'hands-on' practice session.

Workshop presenter: Nina Stedman

Speaker(s)

  • Nina Stedman

Target Group

The course is limited to 16 participants who do not have English as their native language. The level of English should be intermediate or above. There is no need for a knowledge of grammar, but this course is not suitable for beginners.

European Climate Change Adaptation Conference 2013

The European Climate Change Adaptation Conference 2013 is an initiative of a number of major European research projects. This will be the first European conference which covers the broad range of issues related to climate change. The conference will place a greater emphasis on understanding and assessing adaptation in action under the theme integrating climate into action.

Objectives
● Understanding adaptation in action by citizens, business and in policy
● Encourage fruitful interaction between researchers and with practitioners
● Highlight the development of (European) research networks on climate adaptation
● Identify new needs for research and action
