Services for companies

Public funded programmes for supporting innovation and research greatly favour the participation of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). However, that does not mean they make it easy!

We can assist with finding appropriate sources of European funding and, drawing on the expertise of TuTech’s Technology and Funding Consulting, we can also point to sources of regional and national funding if that is more appropriate. In each case we can with writing the application or project proposal and with negotiations between partners as well as funders. Commercial confidentiality and intellectual rights are usually sensitive issues. That is why it is good to have an experienced partner at your side. We can also help you to expand your business opportunities by finding partners across Europe. TuTech is a partner of the Enterprise Europe Network, Europe’s largest network for technology transfer for business development support.

Our clients also include a number of multi-nationals who use us as a resource that can think "outside the box". Our extensive network of contacts to small companies and researchers in many different fields enables us to help clients innovate: innovation takes place at boundaries – where different specialisations meet – but where different cultures meet it is good to have an intermediary to act as translator!

As partners of the Enterprise Europe Network Hamburg - Schleswig-Holstein established to provide assistance in trans-national technology transfer, we can provide assistance with finding technology partners. We are familiar with the EC special measures for SMEs such the "Research for the benefit of SMEs" part of FP7, EUROSTARS and others.

With strong links to other colleagues at TuTech who are specialists in national funded programmes, we can also look more generally at what opportunities for funding exist from a variety of sources.

Services for researchers

The backbone of our services is the longstanding provision of services relating to EU funding programmes provided for researchers at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). Researchers often find participation in inter-disciplinary and multi-organisational collaborative projects challenging because of the effort it takes to set up consortia.

We are experienced in the routine of submitting proposals and understand the mind of the funders. Together with researchers we can form a team to make the process more effective. Since we also provide services for industrial and public interest organisations, we are able to take on board the interests of all.

For members of TUHH our services are free. We endeavour to set up framework agreements with other researchers, organisations and universities where there is an interest to use us, so as to minimise costs.

Services for public organisations

Much of today’s innovation policy revolves around the idea of getting public administrators, industry and research to work together. As anyone who has experience of this will tell you, this is not easy. Success really depends on having intermediaries who understand the mindset of each – there is a need to bridge cultures and foster trust.

Aside from providing public organisations with advice on how to participate in EU funding opportunities, our staff are often called upon to give policy advice at a regional, national and European level. We are extensively networked to the EU funding community, with close working relations to the European Commission and representatives of research organisations in Brussels. Through our contacts to the Hanse Office, Hamburg’s ministries, research lobby organisations and other channels, we have fast access to information about future programme developments.

Supporting people to make the most of knowledge

We like to share what we know! We are strongly committed to the notion that good researchers, innovators and those who have novel ideas should be well supported by professional services tailored to their needs and style of working. Skilled management helps people work together to achieve goals they cannot achieve alone. To this end we seek to raise the abilities of researchers and implementers of new ideas in “complementary” skills to equip them to further their careers.

Together with the Helmholtz Research Association and Oxford University, we have developed a compact skills training course in Research Management Training for PhD students  - ReMaT - that is much in demand.

Internationally, we are well known as a provider of high quality practical training workshops on various aspects of the Framework programme from conception to exploitation. We can offer these tailor-made on request. Clients include the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, the Max Planck Association, and the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems, Vinnova. Participants have come from both the private and public sector all over Europe.

The Enterprise Europe Network is a key instrument in the EU's strategy to boost growth and jobs. Bringing together close to 600 business support organisations from 49 countries, we help small companies seize the unparalleled business opportunities in the EU Single Market.

Our member organisations include chambers of commerce and industry, technology centres, research institutes and development agencies. Most of them have been supporting local businesses for a long time. They know their clients' strengths and needs - and they know Europe.

As members of the Enterprise Europe Network they are linked up through powerful databases, sharing their knowledge and sourcing technologies and business partners across all Network countries. But they are also closely linked with the European Commission, which enables them to keep abreast of EU policies and to feed small companies' views on them back to Brussels.
